Meet Registered Nurse, Ashmu
Ashmu chose nursing because she wanted to make a positive difference in people’s lives. And, at Yackandandah Aged Care, she’s doing exactly that. She values the opportunity to be there for residents’ health needs, and just as importantly, build meaningful relationships with each of them.
What do you enjoy about supporting the residents?
Working in aged care has taught me to appreciate life and the little things much more. I love spending time with the residents and getting to know them as individuals, learning about their life stories, interests, families and experiences. They each have a unique story and I feel privileged to learn from them.
How do you think you’re making a difference?
I believe my role has an impact on both the physical and emotional wellbeing of residents. As a registered nurse, I can help identify changes in their health, provide appropriate care and make sure their needs are communicated and fulfilled. I also try to create a positive environment and build trust by treating every resident with kindness, respect, patience and dignity. I like to take the time to listen and encourage them to make choices about their care and daily activities.
How does technology help you deliver better care?
I use CareKeeper as part of my daily work. It holds all the information about each resident and their care needs, and it alerts us when something has changed. I like that the information is stored in one place and easily accessible, which means it is always up to date and shared instantly with the team. It helps ensure we can provide timely and consistent care. It also means we spend less time on paperwork and more time with the residents.
At Yackandandah Aged Care, residents are at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on getting to know and understand individual residents, and supporting them to maintain their interests, routines and connections to the people and places they love. We use innovation to help us deliver personalised, meaningful care.
